DRX & VCT Players Complain Burnt Out, Question the 2023 VCT Schedule

DRX & VCT Players Complain Burnt Out, Question the 2023 VCT Schedule.

2023 is a new era for Esports Valorant. They started to undergo a partnership or semi-franchise system where 10 selected teams played in the VCT league in each region.

For Asia itself, there is the VCT 2023 Pacific League where 10 teams from countries in Asia play in this Tier 1 Asian league.

DRX all season practically looks unbeatable. But in the playoffs, they were a bit overwhelmed and had to lose in a reverse sweep to Paper Rex in the grand final of the VCT 2023 Pacific League in Seoul.

After their defeat in the grand final, coach DRX termi and MaKo gave their opinion about the team’s performance and they felt burnt out especially having to play in 5 maps for 2 consecutive days.

DRX termi & MaKo: Long VCT League, Team Feels Burnt Out

DRX coach Termi and their star MaKo said the team was exhausted from the grand finals and felt burnt out. One reason is because they have to play 5 maps in a row for 2 days. And also feeling tired because of long leagues and tournaments that have no down time.

“I think we actually fixed some of the mistakes we made vs T1, but we played 5 maps yesterday and we played quite a lot today too,” MaKo about the team’s performance against PRX in the grand final.

“Games 1 and 2 started well and we had a good performance but as the game went on I could feel that we were starting to burn out and I think today we just lost the stamina battle,” Close MaCo.

Against T1, DRX not only played 5 maps but in the first 3 maps they played with a score of 13-11. In total they played approximately 5 hours in total against T1.

The following day they also had to face PRX in the BO5 grand finals of the VCT 2023 Pacific League. On map 1 Fracture, they played for more than 1 hour and on map 2 Ascent they played 3OT for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Of course, even though DRX is a very experienced team, this is not easy.

For coach termi himself, he said that this year they had learned a lot in the league and would improve their training schedule so as not to burn out their players.

“I feel the league is very long and the players must feel burnt out and I want to thank our players for following such a busy schedule. Next year we will try to further improve our own internal schedule so that our players don’t feel too tired during the second season.” termi said.

The VCT League lasts for about 10 weeks and after that there will be the Tokyo Masters, and the VCT LCQ and finally the Champions 2023.

All of this happened in just over 6 months. A team like DRX can be said to be very overwhelmed with the schedule prepared for this year.

IGL NRG FNS & IGL FNATIC Boaster also complained of burnt out

Apart from DRX, who felt that the schedule was tight and burnt out, the other VCT players also felt the same way.

This opinion comes from 2 stars from America and EMEA, FNS and Boaster.

NRG itself was slaughtered 0-3 by LOUD who won the VCT 2023 America league and FNATIC themselves also lost 1-3 to Team Liquid in the VCT 2023 EMEA league.

IGL NRG said this in his tweet “Now that we have qualified and everything is ready and done, I will say it again. This format takes everything from us. We played 1 game a week for 9 weeks, then played 5 games, 2 of which were BO5 in ONE WEEK. Now we have Tokyo, then Champions a month later….. then 5 months off? Bruh.”

IGL FNATIC Boaster also agrees with FNS opinion, I was just about to tweet this too. Great thinkers think alike! This season has been tough and we don’t even lose anymore! I’d love to take a break mid-season or something. It (training/competition) is non-stop.”

Indeed VCT 2023 is a new format for Valorant and Riot Games. Knowing them, surely they will study and take the complaints of players from 2023.

We can expect that in 2024 VCT will have a new format. But what do you think about the 2023 VCT schedule? Is it reasonable or too dense?
