Coach DRX Termi & PRX Alecks Agree Asia Pacific Teams & Players Are More Creative Than America & EMEA!
Entering the third year of Valorant esports, Valorant’s meta-meta is getting more and more. Looking at all the meta in Valorant so far, we have meta Jett, meta Astra, meta Chamber and maybe now in 2023 is meta Jett again (although not as OP as it used to be).
With esports leagues divided around the world, each region also has its own meta and identity.
In EMEA maybe the teams play more slowly and use strategies and skills, in America they may rely more on the aim of the players and in Asia Pacific, have the most unique identity because teams from different countries have their own gameplay (but the important thing is they can win).
During a media interview after the VCT Pacific League 2023 grand finals, coach DRX, termi and also coach PRX, Alecks gave their opinion on how different APAC’s identity and gameplay are compared to other leagues.

PRX Alecks & DRX termi: We have our own identity, we can now make our own meta
The APAC or Asia Pacific region is perhaps the most interesting region because each country in APAC has its own gameplay.
It’s a little different from EMEA where most of the teams have a mixture of players from various European countries so the games might be more similar to one another.
In America it is also said that the gameplay relies less on hard aim like Sentinels or Loud.
For Asia, Indonesia has its own gameplay, Thailand, Singapore, Japan and Korea are also the same. And most of their players don’t mix and this gives each team its own identity.
Coach DRX Termi also agreed that the Asia Pacific team can now compete with the EMEA and American teams, the level is not lower anymore.
“My impression of vct pacific is much higher than I thought, looks like they are much better than I expected. Now it’s like playing with all the top teams from around the world.” termi said.
Termi also said that even Asian teams no longer need to follow outside metas but can create their own metas.
“I think VCT Pacific doesn’t really follow the NA or EMEA strategy, they may see it but they make it completely their own. Right now we can actually create meta instead of following meta.” close term.
Indeed, if we take a look, the Asia Pacific VCT teams have a unique meta, slightly different from the outside. Even though they are sometimes not successful, at least they try new things that they think are suitable for their gameplay and players.
The coach for the VCT Pacific Paper Rex champion, Alecks, also agreed with Termi. He feels the Asia Pacific teams have their own gameplay and meta.
“We definitely have our own identity. But I think it’s more like, we’ve always had it but only because the league is so fragmented. Now that the teams are assembled, you see a clash of different playing styles from each region. that’s pretty cool,” said Aleck.
Alecks also feels amazed that even though the gameplay is different, each team can successfully go through it. And according to him, teams in Asia also have more creativity.
“I think it’s great like DRX and we have opposite play styles and both work. I’d say that for example, GE owns the American IGL, so they play a little differently. The Talon kids play in their own way. I think it’s great that the pacific league doesn’t have to follow comps, maybe that’s our identity, a little bit more creativity, but it’s pretty cool.” closed Alecks.

So it’s pretty cool to see that every team in Asia has their own gameplay. What’s more, we know that Paper Rex always creates strange metas on its own, like in Ascent versus DRX, not using Jett but Raze and Reyna and also 2 controllers Harbor and Viper.
The Tokyo Masters will also be even more exciting, especially since 12 teams from each region including China will gather. We will also see more how the gameplay of each region will work.
