Why DRX Surprised Lost To EG At VCT Masters Tokyo 2023! Stax: We Respect & Give Up Space!
DRX is one of the teams that is quite consistent in international tournaments in VCT. You could say they almost always win the group they play in the Masters or Champions.
This time, they have to admit the superiority of the team from America, Evil Geniuses, after being dominated in the upper group B match of the VCT Masters Tokyo 2023.
On map 1 Fracture, DRX looked very overwhelmed against EG where they immediately fell behind 0-5 in the early rounds. They ended up losing 5-13 in Map 1.
Back in map 2 Ascent, DRX was left far behind 5-10 before narrowing the gap to 9-10 but EG was able to close this map with a score of 13-9.

In these two maps, EG seems to be able to read and counter anything DRX does. DRX himself didn’t know what to do against it.
DRX Stax Sense Too Much Space For EG At VCT Masters Tokyo 2023 Group B
Moreover, DRX was always able to stop his opponent’s duelists, but this time Demon1 and Jawgemo were very comfortable in this match.
“I think EG, they played really well, especially their duelists Jawgemo and Demon1. But today’s defeat is also because we made mistakes. We shouldn’t give them that much space easily.” Stax said in the post match interview.
“We didn’t really counter their strategy efficiently, and we shouldn’t have let them onto the site easily,” closed the IGL from DRX.
Their coach, Termi, said that they are currently doing a number of new things to try to be able to raise the level of their team.
“Right now we are just focused on being flexible in different situations. And how to better adapt to our opponents.” said coach termi.
So, DRX doesn’t really look like the DRX we know that dominated opponents in 2022 and also during VCT LOCK//IN in February 2023.
Because of how good the DRX team is, surely many teams have watched and studied and also copied how they play. Coach EG Potter also said that they had studied DRX once and knew how they played.
“So of course their team that we have taken a lot of inspiration from. But we are very familiar with their game plan.” said the EG coach.
