EDward Gaming (EDG) has amazed Valorant esports fans around the world with their performance at the VCT Masters Tokyo 2023.
You could say that China is the youngest region among all the world’s Valorant regions. China has also just officially released the game in China, and EDG’s performance has left fans and players in awe.
This is EDG’s third appearance in an international VALORANT tournament, having previously played in VCT Champions 2022 as well as VCT LOCK//IN Brazil.
Granted they did not have a great debut at the Tokyo Masters 2023 losing 1-2 to T1. But they didn’t give up, defeating Masters champion team Copenhagen NAVI and again beat T1 to advance to the playoffs.

In the playoffs despite losing to Team Liquid, they showed their crazy fighting spirit by trailing on map 3 Lotus, 7-12, chasing 11-12 before losing 11-13.

One of the most unexpected moments was when they had to face the LOUD world champion in the lower bracket. EDG winning 2-0 outright is definitely a shocking result in the world of VALORANT.

After defeating LOUD, Zmjjkk says “I did not cry. I don’t know how to describe the feeling I have. It felt to me like I finally beat my kryptonite, my nightmare. Back in Brazil I was crushed by them”.
Even against the Paper Rex in the lower bracket they showed their strong mentality. In map 1 Fracture, even though they had won 11-4, they had to lose 12-14 in OT. But they didn’t give up and won map 2 Split, 13-9.
Indeed map 3 Lotus was Paper Rex’s choice, EDG did look overwhelmed against Paper Rex’s own aggressive play. Even though they lost, EDG can hold their heads high because they have amazed the world with their performance at the Tokyo 2023 Masters.
PRX jinggg also said this for EDG, “The game was very tight, kudos to EDG because I feel they played very well, and they put China on stage [VALORANT]”.
This certainly won’t be the last time we’ll see EDG on the stage of an international VALORANT tournament. They will fight again in the qualifiers for the 2023 Champions and for sure with this performance EDG will become a very superior team.
