HellCard managed to secure a place in the FFIM 2022 Fall Play-Ins round after collecting a total of 106 points in the Group Finals on 30 September 2022-2 October 2022.

In that round, HellCard was one point ahead of Depok Pride and managed to become the winner of Group B. HellCard is now ready to show its best ability in the Play-Ins round to be able to make a new history as a community team that was able to qualify for the Grand Finals.

So how is HellCard’s preparation to fight in the Play-Ins round? To find out, see the excerpt of an interview with Raffy Ilham Ramadhani (EsGulaBatu), Riqi Permana Putra (Gol D. Taaa), Genius Costantien Laloan (HC XeonZ), Zacky Aulia Dipraja (EsTehLemon), and Joshans N. Marthen (JOSH.FFST) from HellCard on Friday, October 7, 2022, below.

What did HellCard look like in the first place?

Ricky: HellCard itself existed earlier, but with a different team. The longest roster in the team is HC XeonZ.

However, even though we haven’t joined HellCard yet, we already know each other while still defending different community teams. Finally, XeonZ invited us to join this team. The composition of the current team is only about 2 months.

Raffy: At first we only made this team for the President’s Cup and participated in several minor tournaments. Our initial intention to join was more to earn money, to make money, not to be competitive. Eh, but I didn’t think we’d finally be able to enter Play-Ins in FFML 2022 Fall.

Before your successful entry into Play-Ins FFIM 2022 Fall, what were your previous achievements in HellCard like?

Ricky: As a community team, HellCard has been around for a long time. We have also participated several times in FFIM, but unfortunately we never made it past the Group Finals phase.

Last season finished in 3rd position, before it was also the same not too different. But this record was obtained with a different squad, only HC XeonZ (Genius) is still in the current roster.

Now that you can take HellCard to the Play-Ins round, what do you think is the secret to your success so far?

Geniuses: You could say there was a luck factor and maybe it was time. Indeed, from the previous few minor tournaments, we always seem to get cursed, for example a curse runner up because the points are the same or the points are just different from each other, the difference continues. Alhamdulillah, in the Group Finals this time, we were able to win the Group and qualify for the Play-Ins.

If you look at your achievements so far, how does being able to qualify for Play-Ins feel like for you?

Zacky: Actually this is just the beginning of our journey with HellCard, this makes us even more excited to continue participating in other competitions together.

We are also still eyeing a number of other competitions that are open to community teams, one of which is the Free Fire Scouting Ground, President’s Cup, and other tournaments.

You both have busy schedules, such as school or college. How do you divide your time to be able to practice on HellCard like what?

Raffy: We are looking for a suitable practice time for practice. Although we haven’t been able to meet in person because we’re far apart, so we’ll just practice online and meet in the game.

We have different positions, for example in Solo, Riqi in South Tangerang, Genius in Jakarta, Zacky in Serang, Joshans in Maluku. Usually we start training in the afternoon from 3 to 5 pm. In the evening, continue again from 8-11 o’clock at night. Outside of this exercise, yes, we do each other’s duties or obligations.

How do you maintain chemistry and keep Free Fire a fun game for you even though it’s already competitive?

Geniuses: We often practice together, of course, and maintain our mentality in playing, that from the start our intention was to have fun and earn extra pocket money. As much as possible we avoid thinking or targeting that in the game we have to win. So the key is to keep it fun, but also serious and not careless.

With you successfully entering Play-Ins, is there a significant difference in the responses of your friends or family around?

Ricky: What matters the most is that you have more friends. If we play together, in-game many people greet us too.

Has there been an offer to become a Pro Player? Will you take it?

Zacky: Of course, there is an offer, but no decision has been made to take it or not. Right now, we’re focusing on the current FFIM 2022 Fall.

Apart from you, there is Depok Pride as another community team that performed well and beat professional teams, including some from FFML Division 1. Is this a sign that it is time for the community team to rise up?

Raffy: Depok Pride is arguably one of the community teams that is quite great and has often met HellCard in various competitions.

If you look at the results of the Group Finals yesterday, perhaps what we can see is that the community team did not lose in terms of game skills. But what makes the difference is in flight hours and experience.

The esports team is indeed more focused and dedicated to esports, while community teams like us are freer.

After practice, for example, you can play in the afternoon or evening. If it’s esports, the portion will certainly be more for training. So, the difference in flight hours and experience is the most visible.

And it’s only a matter of time for the community team to get the same experience.

After entering Play-Ins FFIM 2022 Fall, what are your future targets?

Geniuses: When it comes to targets and dreams, of course, to become the champion of FFIM 2022 this Fall. Next, yes, hopefully I can represent Indonesia at the FFWS 2022 Bangkok. Amen, I hope HellCard goes to FFWS Bangkok.

If you can qualify for the Grand Finals, is there a team or player that you would like to face?

Zacky: It would be great if we could meet with EVOS. Meet MR05, SAM13, who has been our role model all along. Both in the game and outside, his nature, his play inspired us a lot. Getting through and fighting them would be an amazing experience.

You said earlier that your goal of playing is to have fun, but if you look at your current position, what is the pressure for you?

Geniuses: In the Group Finals, the pressure was already quite felt. From the way we play, we also use our brains more. The competition is also getting tougher because all teams want to be able to qualify for the Play-Ins.

In fact, to be honest in the Group Finals we were not able to perform well in all games, there were also one or two games that we played really badly. There we immediately realized that we had to be more serious.

Then how can you perform better in the Play-Ins round later and not be pressured?

Ricky: The most important thing is not to think too much of the pressure as a burden. From us, the important mindset is that we have to show our best in every game. So keep playing with fun but also not random.

What are the most important lessons and advice from the analysts, casters, and also Bang Fayad that you took to perform better in the Play-Ins round?

Ricky: We got a lot of valuable advice, one of which we were given directions to learn the drop zone better, squad rotation also needs to be improved. So more on the strategy side, we learned a lot from Bang Fayad.

Raffy: We have also evaluated from the Group Finals that we have to improve our communication in the game, so that information can be conveyed and received well by all of us. In addition, of course, maintain calm, so that we don’t panic and don’t get hit mentally. Let’s not grumble.

For you guys, do you have any particular wishes from this Fall 2022 FFIM? Is there something you want to prove to people?

Raffy: One of them is of course the hope that he can start changing the views of people around him that by playing games we can also make money from competing in Free Fire tournaments like this. We want to dispel the notion that playing games is a waste of time, and emphasize that playing games can also produce something.

Message for the Free Fire community teams out there?

Geniuses: For the community, don’t complain, we have proven that community teams can compete with esports teams. So just believe in the process. Because each person has been given their own fortune, sometimes it may not be time yet, but don’t be discouraged.
