Moonton Collaborates with UGM, Provides Scholarships For Outstanding Students

It is undeniable that the development of esports in Indonesia is very fast and experiencing significant changes. This has made the existence and potential of this industry even bigger and much discussed, especially by the millennial generation.

Not without reason, esports talents who are proven to be able to make the name of the Indonesian people come from the younger generation who are the next generation who are still in school and lectures. This is what makes esports very closely related to the education industry.

Departing from this, Moonton Games through the Moonton Cares program “Fostering the Legend” was moved to provide scholarships to students at Padjadjaran University, Yogyakarta Technology University, and Gadjah Mada University to encourage the quality of education in Indonesia and provide opportunities for young people to have careers in esports scene.

“The selected students have gone through several stages for four months starting from registration, interviews, to the announcement of scholarship recipients. We are very motivated to support the educational needs of students in Indonesia so that they can excel academically and become productive contributors to society through games and esports,” said Azwin Nugraha, Public Relations & Communications Manager of Moonton Indonesia.

Students who take part in this scholarship program are also subject to a number of requirements such as majors relevant to the esports or game industry such as graphic design, business, marketing, game development, information technology; have a minimum GPA of 3.2 in the final semester, are active in organizational activities both on and off campus, and have academic achievements.

“We hope to continue to be consistent in supporting the esports ecosystem in Indonesia and also to be consistent in contributing to the continuity of education. In the future, we are also opening internships for selected students so that there is no limit that esports must become athletes. There are many job opportunities such as graphic design, community manager, public relations, business development and marketing,” added Azwin.

“On behalf of the UGM Directorate of Student Affairs, we would like to thank Moonton for caring about providing scholarships for our students. In 2019, 2020, esports has actually been established at UGM but it is still limited to a community. In the future, we will encourage esports to become a Student Activity Unit (UKM). We hope that there will also be a supporting system from the government for the curriculum. Once again, I congratulate the young recipients of the scholarship, make optimal use of this scholarship from Moonton,” said UGM Director of Student Affairs Dr. Sindung Tjahyadi, M. Hum.

“I feel happy and proud at the same time. Thanks to Moonton for the scholarship opportunity given to me and other UGM friends. Moonton is a major esports corporation in the world, I hope this scholarship will spur me to have a career in the esports and games industry both in Indonesia and internationally,” said Hasna Hanasari, one of the recipients of the Montoon scholarship from the UGM Faculty of Economics and Business.

Previously, Moonton Games collaborated with Garudaku Academy to try to reduce the digital access gap in rural areas, to enable more people to enjoy convenience and information with the digital economy, and to open opportunities for young esports athletes through the Moonton Cares program. There are hundreds of students from seven schools in East Java who are facilitated by the esports academy coaching program which includes various programs to equip students who have an interest in getting into the esports industry. The initial step taken was to provide donations to schools in East Java.

Since 2018, Moonton Games has produced hundreds of esports athletes who have competed at the professional level in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Indonesia and also Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Development League Indonesia.

Hundreds of professional esports players are not only the backbone of the family, they also carry the name of the team and Indonesia on the world stage.
