MDL ID Season 7 Open Qualifier Will Be Coming Soon, Here Are the Requirements!

The seventh season of MDL Indonesia feels special with the presence of a new format.

First, of course, the main topic of discussion this time is the Open Qualifier.

With #Esports4Everyone, MDL Indonesia will open an Open Qualifier from 2-8 January 2023. Later, the two teams that reach the Grand Final will be entitled to take part in MDL ID Season 7 later.

Requirements to Join the MDL ID Season 7 Open Qualifier

There are several conditions that must be obeyed by teams wishing to try to take part in the Open Qualifier, namely:

• Never participated in Official League (MPL & MDL), Official 3rd Party Tournaments (President Cup & IESF), Official Regional Tournaments (M-Series, MPLI, & MSC)
• The team consists of 5 players, 1 reserve (maximum 10 people), 1 coach, 1 manager), jersey, logo and player names.
• Registration via the MDL website, namely https://id.mdl.com

Format MDL ID Season 7

MDL Indonesia Season 7 is divided into four phases; open qualifiers, play-in, regular seasonand playoffs.

Registration for open qualifiers opens on January 2, 2023 through the website https://id-mdl.com. The MDL Open Qualifiers will be held on 17-20 January 2023 with the format best of three (BO3).

The requirements for a team to register for the MDL Open Qualifiers are that the team has never participated in a professional tournament, consists of a maximum of six players (five starting players and one substitute), has a coach, and has jersey as well as the team logo.

Meanwhile, the Play-In phase will last for three days starting January 24-26 2023. The teams that will compete are the bottom two non-MPL teams from MDL ID Season 6 namely FOES and Pabz, and four teams that have passed the selection stage.

The six teams will compete in BO3 and BO5 formats in grand finals. The two best teams that enter the Play-In grand final will immediately get an MDL ID Season 7 slot.

“This is a form of our consistency in continuing to develop the esports ecosystem in Indonesia. Esports4Everyone, everyone can have the opportunity to get involved in the world of esports and even achieve the dream of becoming a professional athlete. Because there are two new teams from the open qualifiers, another thing that is different in MDL ID Season 7 from the previous season is that there will be 16 teams competing for a prize pool worth USD 40 thousand or the equivalent of IDR 600 million,” said Azwin Nugraha, Public Relations & Communications Manager of Moonton Indonesia.

The surprises didn’t end there. In addition to the total prize pool, and the teams that will compete, the format of the tournament is also different from before.

Of the 16 existing teams, it will be divided into two groups consisting of eight teams for each group. Group A will be filled by MPL teams while those that will compete in Group B will be semi-professional teams including teams from open qualifiers and play-ins.

MDL Indonesia Season 7 Regular Season will take place from 7-12 February 2023, and the Playoffs will take place for four days on 13-16 April 2023.

“Running for seven consecutive seasons, MDL Indonesia has given a strong signal and executed our commitment to maintain the esports industry in Indonesia. This league serves as a platform to identify new stars and increase the regeneration of esports athletes in Indonesia. We will have two fresh teams from the Open Qualifiers which signify strong growth and awakening of young and bright stars. This also includes an increase in the prize pool to USD 40 thousand or IDR 600 million,Azwin added.
