Why does the Ukrainian government want the Atomic Heart game banned!?

Atomic Heart is a new RPG game just released. But the Ukrainian government has asked Sony, Microsoft and Valve to ban digital sales of the game in the country due to concerns over Mundfish, its possible ties to Russia.

Several accusations in which game developer Mundfish has reportedly accepted money from a Russian company and refused to denounce its war in Ukraine.

Mundfish was rumored to be a Russian game developer by Russian media, although the company insists it is of international origin and is currently based in Cyprus.

Ukraine wants to limit the distribution of Atomic Heart inside and outside the country. Deputy Minister for Digital Affairs Alexander Bornyakov, in a statement to Dev.ua, discussed the potential toxicity of games, the possibility of data collection and transfer, and the potential for the money generated to go to war against Ukraine.

Specifically, if Mundfish does receive money from a Russian company, then the game’s funds could be sent to the Russian government. Again, the Russian investment has not been confirmed or denied, but the Ukrainian government’s concerns are rooted in a legitimate possibility.

“We also call for limiting the distribution of this game in other countries because of its toxicity, potential collection of user data information and the possibility of transferring it to third parties in Russia, as well as the potential use of money earned from purchasing the game to wage war against Ukraine.” said Bornyakov in his statement.
