Why Prices Rise For Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom It’s Normal for Players.
The most awaited game this year is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. What’s interesting is that this is a first for Nintendo as it will launch with a price tag of USD$70 (Rp 1 Million) instead of the USD$60 (Rp 900k) that the company’s first party titles usually sell.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom itself is the highly anticipated sequel of Breath of the Wildthe Nintendo Switch first-party mainstream launch title from March 2017.

Last February, Nintendo Switch players discovered that Tears of the Kingdom is up for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop. However, Tears of the Kingdom listed with a $70 price tag instead of the standard $60 price one would normally expect from a new first-party release.
Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America, claims that the price is higher for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom invaluable for the experience players will gain.
Bowser discussed the game’s price in a recent interview with AP. Asked how Nintendo arrived at the $70 mark, a first for a Nintendo game, Bowser explained: “We saw what the game has to offer. I think fans will find this is a very complete and immersive experience. The price point reflects the kind of experience fans can expect when playing this particular game.”
Bowser also suggests that changing the standard price for first-party games, depending on the game itself, is a ‘fairly common pricing model’ in Europe and other parts of the world.
It’s a good thing that the USD$70 price tag isn’t going to be the new standard for Nintendo going forward for their first-party games. A spokesperson added that the company would check the prices of their games on a case-by-case basis.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be launched on May 12th for Nintendo Switch and preorders are now live. Die-hard fans can also buy a Collector’s Edition at a price of $ 130 (Rp. 2 million).
Like it though Tears of the Kingdom has a high price, as it will not hinder the success of this one game.
