One player who has surprised fans is when he saw that one of the best duelists in 2022 had switched roles to become a controller/smoker. Well, that player is a former Onic Esports duelist Light “Monkey” Nugraha.
In the first 4 weeks of the VCT 2023 Pacific League, Monkey’s performance with Global Esports has amazed Valorant fans not only in Indonesia but all over the world.
Especially when we saw him play against DRX and Talon Esports, where casters and outside analysts were surprised by his game.

It’s not easy for players to switch roles at the highest level of Valorant. Many players try to switch roles but more fail than succeed.
SPIN Esports spoke with IGL Global Esports, Ayrin, about Monkey’s performance in the VCT 2023 Pacific League. He also feels that Monkey’s performance is to be commended and his career is very bright in this new role.
“He is one of the best Jett in Asia right? I think he is one of the best (smoker) controllers in the world right now. I think being one of the best controllers in the world is better for him as a career, better for the team because people always need good controller players. I think Monkey will be playing for 5, 10 years now.” said the player with the name Jordan He.
Ayrin believes that if Monkey continues to develop like this and also stays in the role of controller, his career can be longer and it is also undeniable that he will become one of the best controllers in the world.
But he also said that if asked to choose a duelist with 30 kills or a controller, he would choose a controller. Something Monkeys can and have done.
“He is extraordinary, the way he learns and develops. Maybe in the future we’ll see, he can duelist again, but if you were to ask me if I’d rather have a duelist drop 30 kills every game or controller, I’d say controller. At this rate he is well on his way to becoming one of the best controllers in the world. So I think that’s the best way for him.” said Ayrin.

Valorant Indonesian fans know how important and good Monkey is when playing Jett and the other duelists with ONIC Esports in 2022. He himself was almost able to lead ONIC into Champions 2022 before having to admit BOOM Esports’ superiority at LCQ Asia Pacific 2022.
In the first 4 weeks of VCT 2023 Pacific League, Monkey plays very consistently and is always on top in kills even though he is a smoker on the team.
