Turns Out This Is The Reason For The Touching Paper Rex Pick Icebox In Week 5, The Map They Hate The Most!

Fans saw many new things at VCT 2023 Pacific League Week 5 yesterday. The visible change comes from the fan favorite team, Paper Rex.

This team from Singapore surprised many fans and spectators because they chose the Icebox map against Global Esports.

Icebox is known as the most hated and disliked map by the Paper Rex team. In their last 6 matches, from VCT LOCK//IN and the first 5 weeks of VCT 2023, Paper Rex have ban 5 of 6 Icebox.

So of course this is very strange because they themselves chose this map. But it turns out, there is something heartwarming and also a little funny why they chose this least favorite map!

PRX Alecks & f0rsakeN: We Want To Play Because It’s The Last Time We’ll See Icebox

If we look at the statistical history of Icebox and Paper Rex, it is one of their best maps. They have a win rate of 73%, 45 wins 17 losses. But maybe seeing some recent results they are always slaughtered.

During the post match interview, Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto explained why they chose Icebox.

“As you can see on the Icebox map, it’s not doing very well because I’m not sure why, we also tried a new meta with Gekko, but I don’t think Gekko is too bad on that map. The reason we play icebox is because I think it will be deleted next week, so we’ll just play it.” short explanation from f0rsakeN.

One of the reasons is because Riot will remove Icebox from the map pool starting from Week 6 VCT 2023 and will be replaced with Bind. The reason is quite funny for the pick map because it will be removed, OK?

PRX Alecks CGRS

Actually there is a deeper reason than coach Paper Rex Alecks why they actually chose Icebox against Global Esports in week 5.

When asked by SPIN Esports in an exclusive interview, this coach from France said he wanted to give cgrs a chance to play before Icebox was eliminated.

“We’ve been training with cgrs for maybe a month on the Icebox. We scrim for a month and this is the last week Icebox can be played. So I just wanted to try cgrs.

Paper Rex has been practicing for a long time with cgrs in Icebox. This is one of the maps that they have prepared with their backup players.

Because he spent a month trying to try and play and we have had very good results in the scrim. Even though we don’t like it but I think we still need more practice.” said the coach named Alex Salle.

So that’s the heartwarming reason from Alecks and Paper Rex why they chose Icebox in week 5 against Global Esports. They did this because they felt it would be a shame if they didn’t play it with the CGRS who had worked hard at training.

Even though it hasn’t been able to produce a win for Paper Rex, we have seen this player from Thailand, cgrs play in VCT Pacific 2023.

With Bind back, maybe we’ll see more cgrs in the future!
